DiNapoli: Casinos no cure

It’s a bad bet.

The state’s fiscal watchdog blasted Gov. Cuomo’s plan to legalize up to seven Vegas-style casinos in New York state as fool’s gold.

“I generally have concerns about supporting government through gaming revenues,” state Comptroller Tom DiNapoli said yesterday. “I don’t think it’s a panacea.”

DiNapoli said that the economic benefits of additional resort casinos are being oversold with excessive revenue projections from their supporters.

“A good dose of skepticism should be applied,” he said of the gaming plan during a briefing with reporters at his Manhattan office.

He also wondered whether the region already has enough casinos, citing those in Connecticut and Atlantic City.
