Disabled train creates Penn Station delays

Travelers heading to New Jersey for Thanksgiving and commuters faced delays at Penn Station during rush hour after a train was disabled just outside of Penn Station, authorities said.

The Midtown Direct train became disabled shortly before 5 p.m. in the Hudson River Tunnel, according to
a New Jersey transit spokeswoman.

Trains were forced to share a single track, causing backups and delays of 20 to 30 minutes on the Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast, and Morris and Essex Midtown Direct lines.

The spokeswoman said the train has since been towed back to the station.

Carol Ruiz, 52, from Staten Island said she was late to church in New Jersey because of the delay. “I’ll probably be missing worship,” she said. “But maybe I’ll just walk in time for dinner after services.”
