Taconic tragedy mom speaks out for first time since losing 3 daughters in wrong-way crash

Jackie Hance — the Long Island mom whose three young daughters were killed in a July 2009 wrong-way crash on the Taconic Parkway — is speaking out for the first time about her horrific loss.

Hance’s daughters — Emma, 8, Alyson, 7, and Katie, 5 — were returning from an upstate camping trip with their aunt, Diane Schuler, and Schuler’s two young children when a drunk Schuler sped the wrong way for two miles along the Taconic Parkway before colliding with an SUV.

Hance and her husband, Warren, spoke with NBC’s Ann Curry about moving forward after the tragedy and her new book, “I’ll See You Again.”

“I’m their mom. And supposed to, you know, protect them, and I didn’t. It’s just hard not to blame yourself.

“My greatest desire is for people to know them [her daughters] that never got to know them. And maybe, like, Alyson’s art teacher – future art teacher, Emma’s future mother-in-law, or Katie’s future college roommate, you know, or somebody who didn’t get the chance to meet them might meet them through the book.”
