Sicko puts fake bomb on doorstep of retired FDNY 9/11 responder

A sicko placed a fake bomb on the doorstep of a retired firefighter in Bay Ridge less than two days after the bombings at the Boston Marathon finish line, sources said.

Ed Green who responded to the World Trade Center attacks, told investigators someone rang his doorbell around 12:30 a.m., today. When he answered it, no one was there.

Instead, the retired firefighter found a propane tank with tape and wires sticking out and he dialed 911, sources said.

“My dad was very calm, he’s been through 9/11 and he just knew what to do,” Green’s daughter Diana said. “With my dad being there I wasn’t scared. It’s upsetting and terrible.”

Green, his family and his neighbors were evacuated from the home but the NYPD Bomb Squad determined the “device” was a fake, sources added.

Neighbor Dennis Monohan, 62, said he saw “a propane cylinder about a foot long with wires.”

“It appeared to be something lethal,” he said. “After what happened in Boston it was alarming. Just so odd. Why? To tie up resources? It doesn’t make sense.”

Police haven’t made any arrests yet and Green declined to comment, except to say: “I’m just concerned about my wife and kids.”

State Sen. Martin Golden called the incident “unconscionable.”

“These childish pranks are no laughing matter,” he said. “During a time of grave concern, when everyone is on heightened alert, to divert police and public resources for a gag is a criminal act, and should be treated as such.”
