Middle school girl beaten savagely by older girls in Astoria Park

A middle school girl was stomped on, dragged by the hair and slugged by several vicious older girls, as a screaming pack of teens raged through Astoria Park last week, a shocking video of the melee shows.

The victim suffered eight stitches, according to the mother of a friend who was also beaten in the horrifying attack in Astoria Park around 3:15 p.m., April 12. The 14-year-old middle school student had been jumped by a crowd the day before and her eighth grade honor student pal walked with her that day and then tried to pull older teens off their target.

“I didn’t want her to die,” the loyal pal told the Post. “I did the best I could have done. I was beaten up by guys with weapons.”

The girl who tried to stand up for her bullied friend was also cornered and beaten by girls, and boys, ages 15 to 20, she told the Post. The attackers used belts, a construction barrier and Timberland boots, she said.

She suffered a bloody face and swollen eyes after the brawl near the tennis courts by Hoyt Avenue and 19th Street. Her friend who was targeted got eight stitches at Elmhurst Hospital. Both attend IS 126.

A group of about 30 students can been seen in the disturbing video throwing punches, tossing the girls victims to the ground and shouting in shrill voices as they prowled the concrete park.

“I know not one of them but live near them and my mother’s scared for my safety,” one of the victims told the Post. “I’m scared for my safety.”

The assailants are believed to be students at Long Island City High School, sources said.

“The bullying needs to stop,” one of the victims told the Post. “The fighting needs to stop. These kids need to get off street.”

Detectives are interviewing witnesses and at least one of the attackers is named in the police report but have not made any arrests yet. Police did not release the name of the alleged attacker because she is a juvenile.

Council Member Peter Vallone called for a thorough investigation after receiving the disturbing video from a Facebook friend.

“They found it online on one of these Web sites dedicated to vicious beatings,” he said.

The council member’s staff forwarded the video to school and police officials and.

“This is a gang of older high school girls brutally beating one or two junior high school girls,” Vallone said. “We can actually see one girl being held down and having her face stepped on. This is not something you see in Astoria.
