A brazen thief masqueraded as a police officer during a Bronx grocery store robbery last month, cops said.
The NYPD released surveillance video that shows the suspect entering the store on E. 166th St. in the Fleetwood – Concourse Village section at around 8:30 p.m. on March 21 with a firearm and a police shield around his neck, cops said.
The thief allegedly announced that he was a cop before ordering customers to the back of the store.
“He came in acting like a police officer and told everyone to go to the back. I don’t think anyone believed him,” said an employee who heard about the robbery. “Then he robbed the [clerk].”
The thief made off with about $1,000, according to police.
Cops described the suspect as a Hispanic man between 35 and 40-years-old. He is approximately five-foot-seven and weighs around 160 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black hat, green sweater and a shield around his neck.
