Mayoral hopeful John Catsimatidis uses Boston attack to push pro-cop agenda

Republican John Catsimatidis campaign yesterday used the Boston terror attack to promote his pro-cop positions.

“This week’s terror attack in Boson brings further importance to John’s support to continue the security policies of Mayor Bloomberg and Commsissioner Kelly. Whether it is the stop and frisk policy, or surveillance of potential terrorists, the majority of New Yorkers will want those policies continued,” Catsimatidis’ pollster John MacLaughlin said in a campaign memo.

But chief GOP rival Joe Lhota ‘s campaign accused Catsimatidis of exploiting the Boston massacre for political gain.

Lhota spokewoman Jessica Proud called the Catsimatidis pollster memo “a new low in American politics when a campaign uses a tragedy in Boston for their own benefit.”

“Mr. Catsimatidis should disavow the memo and apologize to the victims.”

GOP rival George McDonald also pounded Catsimatidis.

“It’s sad and unfortunate that a few days after a horrific terrorist attack a campaign is strategizing on how to gain political advantage from it,” said McDonald campaign spokesman George McDonald.

Catsimatidis spokesman Rob Ryan shot back that it was Lhota who playing politics. “Their statement is cynical and wrong,” he said.
