Anarchist faces jail

A self-described anarchist from Brooklyn faces prison for repeatedly refusing to testify before a federal grand jury investigating the 2008 bombing of the military recruiting center in Times Square.

Jerry Koch, 24, claims to know nothing about the unsolved attack but won’t answer questions because he thinks prosecutors are on a “fishing expedition” to find out about his “personal beliefs and political associations.”

Koch lawyer Susan Tipograph said she expects the feds to seek to have him held in civil contempt next week, which could get him locked up for 18 months or longer.

Earlier in the day, Koch invoked the First, Fourth, Fifth and Sixth amendments while refusing to answer questions before the grand jury, just as he did when he was subpoenaed to testify in 2009.

“Jerry is a thoughtful, serious young man, a student of history and politics, and he’s taking a position he thinks is important,” Tipograph said.

A spokeswoman for Manhattan US Attorney Preet Bharara declined to comment.
