Brooklyn TV show stars a killer

The controversial new summer series, “Brooklyn DA,” released its first video tease late yesterday — showing that the series will follow a murder case and the prosecution of a violent pimp.

The show, which began filming inside Brooklyn prosecutor’s office last month, has been attacked by political rivals of DA Charles Hynes, who portray the show as a program-length campaign commercial for the longtime DA.

Hynes, 77, is up for re-election this fall for a seventh term. The nearly-3-minute video released yesterday begins predictably with a shot of the Brooklyn Bridge and testimonials from several unidentified trial prosecutors about the difficulties and rewards of their jobs.

A song by rapper John Forté, a former producer for the Fugees, runs under the clip, with Forté crooning “You’re In Brooklyn Now.”

One candidate for DA, Abe George, is suing CBS to stop the series, set to start Tuesday and run for six weeks — just when the campaign is heating up.

The show is also a rare glimpse at actual trials in New York City courtrooms, where TV cameras are usually allowed only to tape pre-trial proceedings and sentencing hearings.

The show, modeled after an ABC series from last summer shot in two Manhattan hospitals, does not include Hynes himself but focuses on lawyers in his office and their cases.
