A mixed martial mess

The Issue: Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver refuses to bring the legalization of MMA to a vote.

Albany’s dysfunctional lawmakers have the uncanny ability to pull defeat out of the jaws of victory (“Fighting in Connecticut,” Editorial, June 10).

Licenses for nuclear plants were denied, then off-shore drilling off the coast of Long Island, followed by fracking delays and now mixed martial arts. It seems that NY lawmakers are only interested in sexual misconduct, coverups and corruption.

For those who argue that mixed martial arts is brutal, consider that groping women is more brutal, but apparently is OK by Albany standards.

Ironically, New York’s television ads promote the state as business-friendly. Really? There must be a reason that Rick Perry is spending $1 million in advertisements to get New York businesses to move to Texas.Elio Valenti

The people just don’t get it — if it doesn’t benefit the teachers union, TWU Local 100 and the Albany politicians, Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver will never bring it to a vote.

It’s the “What’s in it for me?” attitude.

This man doesn’t even try to compromise with anybody — which shows just how ignorant he is.

Silver thinks he is the president of New York and can do whatever he wants — which he does — and he could care less about the people of the state. J. Fusco
