That’s a lot of beer money for a summer intern.
Google’s interns rake in up to $6,700 per month — more than twice as much as an average American worker’s wage, according to a report.
Google’s New York summer hires, who are satirized in the new Vince Vaughn comedy, “The Internship,” work at the Web search giant’s hip outpost in Chelsea.
They are paid an average of $5,800 a month during the three-month internship, according to the Web site GlassDoor.com.
Software-engineering interns earn the highest wages at the firm, sometimes netting $20,000 in a single summer.
Bartenders near Google’s sprawling two-floor offices on Ninth Avenue and West 15th Street said interns sometimes spend their fat paychecks on Mexican food and beer, and usually tip well.
“Sometimes we do a big event for a large group of Google interns. They’re usually very generous,” said Christopher Johnson, 30, a bartender at the Mexican eatery Dos Caminos.
A Google spokeswoman insisted that the company’s interns are tasked with real work assignments instead of the menial duties often associated with the jobs.
