Can’t beat French Horn Rebellion’s brass

Forget stroking the guitar or hitting the drums. If you want to pick up chicks — or guys — start blowing on the French Horn. Brooklyn-based brothers Robert and David Perlick-Molinari are making the instrument sexy by putting it front and center in the dance-party jams of their group the French Horn Rebellion. And it seems to be working pretty well.

“I get people trying to take off my pants at every other one of our shows,” Robert says. “Just the other day, I was in Denver playing a solo at the front of the stage, and a girl started undoing my belt. It seems to have that effect on guys and girls!”

Similar antics are likely on Thursday when they play at Brooklyn’s Glasslands club, but the beats of French Horn Rebellion are a long way from Robert’s stuffy classical background. He spent hours practicing the instrument as a kid, even going as far as to work on breathing exercises and incorporating yoga to help him improve.

“The band was literally my way of rebelling against my horn teacher and classical music,” he says.

French Horn Rebellion began performing in 2008 and the duo released their debut album, “The Infinite Sound of French Horn Rebellion,” in 2010, but for the last year they’ve concerned themselves with releasing new singles every six or seven weeks. The latest is the funky “Swing Into It,” featuring fellow Brooklyn band Haerts. If you haven’t already, it’s time to join these brothers in their rebellion.
