Writer Meredith Stiehm returns to ‘Homeland’

“Homeland” has recruited Meredith Stiehm back to the writer’s room.

Stiehm, who was a writer and exec producer on “Homeland’s” first two seasons, left to create the FX drama “The Bridge” with Elwood Reid. According to The Hollywood Reporter, she is leaving as co-showrunner after she and Reid disagreed on the creative direction of the series.

Stiehm was the lead writer for the show’s female protagonist, bipolar CIA officer Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes), bringing personal experience to the character because her sister is also bipolar. She has already rejoined the “Homeland” fray, co-writing the third season finale episode (Dec. 15) with series co-creator Alex Gansa.
