Home Run Derby contestants set for Citi Field

David Wright said it was pretty simple making his captain’s picks for Monday’s Home Run Derby at Citi Field.

“All three guys that I had pegged for my 1-2-3 said yes, which made it easy for me,” Wright said.

Robinson Cano didn’t have such an easy time, though his first two picks were no-brainers.

Wright, the National League captain, yesterday tabbed the Nationals’ Bryce Harper and Rockies teammates Carlos Gonzalez and Michael Cuddyer. Cano, the AL captain, picked Chris Davis of the Orioles and Prince Fielder of the Tigers, but was still working the phones to find a fourth participant.

“The defending champion and the league leader,’’ Cano said of his picks.

Cano said he will name his fourth slugger today.

Wright cited Harper’s popularity among the fans and the fact Cuddyer is a close childhood friend from Norfolk, Va., Gonzalez got the nod as the NL home run leader at the time of Wright’s selection.

“I would have loved to have 10 guys on the team, but they wouldn’t let me,” Wright said.

Entering last night, Gonzalez led the NL with 24 home runs. Cuddyer had 15, and Harper and Wright each had 13.

On the AL side, Davis had 33, Cano 20 and Fielder 15.
