Cops arrested and charged an unpatriotic Canadian-born man with a hate crime after he was caught on video surveillance burning the American flag outside a Midtown bar.
Jeff Schorsheide,26, was caught on video surveillance burning the flag with a lit cigarette and lighter as cars and people zipped passed him at the Playwrights Irish Pub on West 35 Street near Sixth Avenues around 4:30 a.m. on July 5, cops said.
The pub owner John Doherty,42, who recently became a US Citizen got stuck with $4,000 worth of damages to his pub’s awning.
Schorsheide, a native of Canada who is now a US Citizen lives in Greenpoint and has a couple of websites and blogs plastered with patriotic photos of veterans and American flags.
He has been charged with reckless endangerment as a hate crime, criminal mischief and arson, cops said.
He had no prior arrests, cops said.
