What hefty QB Jared Lorenzen does for a day job

Former Giants quarterback Jared Lorenzen burst back into the nation’s consciousness on Monday night, when the portly passer was filmed throwing for three touchdowns in the Northern Kentucky River Monsters’ 36-20 victory over the Bluegrass Warhorses in a Continental Indoor Football League game.

When it comes to his day job, however, he’s just like one of us, selling electronics at a store in Blue Ash, Ohio.

“Being a sales guy and doing what I do best — just kind of talking to people and going that route,” he said in a Tuesday interview on “The Jim Rome Show.” “Copiers, IT, you name it, you plug it in, we do it. It’s as simple as just going out and talking to people. I don’t get caught up a lot.”

Here are some other highlights from the interview:

— Lorenzen joked that his listed weight of 320 may not be totally accurate: “I have to confess — I may be 321, 322, [but] that’s about it.”

— He acknowledged that 320 pounds isn’t ideal for a quarterback: “Obviously, it’s not the playing weight that you want to be at, but it’s fun. For me, I’m going to go out there. I love the sport of football — if I can’t coach it, I’m going to be out there playing it. When I get older, I don’t want any regrets. Say what you want, people can hate, but I’m having so much fun, it doesn’t matter.”

— Unsurprisingly, Lorenzen is bigger than most of the linemen on his team, and has been like that for a while:
“I came out of the womb big — I was 13 [pounds], 3 [ounces] from the get-go. 13-3 and my mother still loves me.”

— He embraced his rotund image and enjoys the nicknames that include Hefty Lefty, Pillsbury Throwboy and Abominable Throwman: “There were websites dedicated to these [nicknames]. I embraced ’em all, I had fun with it, and just [went] on with it.”

— Lorenzen said he has no far-fetched plans to attempt a comeback to the NFL, where he hasn’t appeared since he played for Indianapolis in the 2008 preseason: “I love what the offenses are doing nowadays in college and the NFL, but I’m realistic. I’m just out here trying to have some fun and throw a couple more touchdowns before I hang up the cleats.”
