Woman rescued from East River after foolish bid to retrieve cellphone

This woman’s going to need a new phone . . . and a cast.

A woman was hurt when she took an early-morning tumble into the East River near Gracie Mansion yesterday while foolishly trying to retrieve her cellphone, law-enforcement sources said.

Alexis Campagna, 22, was walking along the river in Carl Schurz Park on the Upper East Side at about 6 a.m. when she dropped her phone onto the rocks below, sources said.

Campagna tried to climb down the 20-foot seawall to grab the device and ended up falling most of the way, landing on the jagged boulders along the shoreline, breaking at least one of her legs.

The woman was able to pull herself onto shore, where she was rescued by the FDNY’s Marine Unit Six.

Campagna was rushed Weill Cornell Medical Center with a broken leg.
