Best-selling author Dr. Ian K. Smith to join sixth season of ‘The Doctors’

Best-selling author Dr. Ian K. Smith has been added as a recurring co-host on “The Doctors,” which kicks off its sixth season Monday (9 a.m./Ch. 2).

Smith’s book, “Shred: The Revolutionary Diet,” rocketed to the top of the best sellers list after its publication last December.

New Yorkers may remember Smith — who’s written eight books in all — for his stint in the mid-to-late-90s as Ch. 4’s chief medical correspondent. He also was part of “The Today Show” in the same capacity.

Smith joins new recurring co-hosts Dr. Jennifer Berman (a urologist) and Dr. Rachael Ross (a sexologist), who will appear every now and then with the show’s co-hosts Drs. Travis Stork, Andrew Ordon and James Sears.

Dr. Lisa Masterson, who was one of the original “Doctors” co-hosts, will appear on the show intermittently.

This week’s roster of guests includes an interview on Wednesday with Chaz Bono, who talks about his drastic weight loss, and a segment with actress Tamera Mowry-Housley, who will be on “The Doctors” this Friday.

The series is executive-produced by Jay McGraw, son of daytime talk show king Phil “Dr. Phil” McGraw.
