Top state union leader calls Cuomo a ‘monkey,’ ‘moron’

One of the state’s top union leaders called Gov. Cuomo a “monkey” and a “moron” Wednesday for downsizing the state workforce.

Danny Donohue, president of the Civil Service Employees Association, denounced the governor at a labor rally in Albany for closing state-run hospitals and prisons while claiming New York is business-friendly.

“To be honest about it, the state is open for business — monkey business — and it is Mario Cuomo’s son Andrew who is the biggest monkey we got,” Donohue said.

“We the people of this state are sick and tired of being had by this moron,” he added.

A Cuomo administration official countered, “Union leadership in New York isn’t what it used to be.”

Union officials did not return a call for comment.

The union did not endorse Cuomo in 2010, and in 2011 swallowed a five-year contract that included no raises in the early years.

Donohue said in previous interviews that he is “fed up” with the governor’s leadership and indicated the union might not endorse Cuomo this year.
