MTA’s Select Bus Service to stop using flashing blue lights

MTA Select Bus Service vehicles — which run express along heavily traveled routes like 34th Street — will no longer use flashing blue lights following complaints from motorists who thought they were cop cars.

The lights will stop flashing blue today, officials said.

The agency plans on adding another colored light, but has not determined what color they will be.

City Councilman Vincent Ignizio had asked the agency to change the color after complaints from constituents, who said they were pulling over for the lights under the mistaken belief that they were emergency vehicles.

The agency has 140 SBS buses, which typically feature off-board payment and designated lanes for high-speed travel.
