Repair work to derail nighttime 2-train service

The MTA will shut down the Nostrand Avenue portion of the 2 line in Brooklyn for four consecutive nights, starting Monday.

The service suspensions — part of the agency’s Fastrack repair and maintenance program — will close eight stations in both directions from Franklin Avenue to Flatbush Avenue/Brooklyn College.

The stations will close every night at 10 p.m. and reopen at 5 a.m.

Officials say Fastrack, which began last year, allows workers to make repairs more quickly and saves the agency money.

The MTA also announced it stopped using flashing blue lights on Select Bus Service vehicles, which run express along busy routes like 34th Street and First and Second avenues in Manhattan.

Motorists had complained that they were pulling over their cars after seeing the lights, believing the y were emergency vehicles.

The MTA plans to add another colored light to the buses.

City Councilman Vincent Ignizio (R-SI) had asked the agency to change the color after complaints from constituents.

The 140 SBS buses typically feature off-board payment and use designated lanes.
