LI bishop rips gov

ALBANY — Gov. Cuomo’s fight to strengthen abortion rights is radical and godless, Long Island’s Catholic bishop is charging.

Bishop William Murphy is calling on state lawmakers to resist Cuomo’s push for a “reproductive-rights act.”

“We don’t know how far this is going to go, but it seems pretty extreme,” Murphy told The Post.

Murphy first weighed in on Cuomo’s plan in the National Catholic Register, saying Cuomo could make New York a “haven” for late-term abortions and endanger operating certificates and Medicaid funding for Catholic hospitals.

“It is a radical position that is a formula for the destruction of social relationships,” Murphy told the publication.

Himself a Roman Catholic, Democrat Cuomo pledged in his third State of the State speech last week to fight for stronger abortion protections as part of a broader women’s-rights agenda — repeating that “because it’s her body, it’s her choice.”

“To say that is to say God has no role in our lives,” said Murphy.

His state senator, Republican leader Dean Skelos, is key to making or breaking Cuomo’s agenda.

Cuomo’s and Skelos’ offices declined to comment.
