LISTEN: Voicemails from ‘Lennay Kekua’ to Manti Te’o

Voicemails from Manti Te’o’s fake girlfriend “Lennay Kekua” were released Thursday afternoon, allowing people to finally hear the voice Te’o spent hours listening and talking to over the phone.

In one of the messages, posted by Deadspin, “Kekua” tells Te’o that she’s getting ready for her first chemotherapy session and that she misses him and loves him.

The second voicemail is from Sept. 11, 2012, the night before “Kekua” allegedly died. She tells Te’o that she’ll be ok that night, she’s doing her best and will talk to him the next day.

Te’o reportedly had 1,000 calls with someone he thought was “Lennay Kekua,” including one in which he claims to have heard her come out of her coma.

In a new preview of their interview, released this morning, Te’o told Couric that he heard breathing followed by her whispering his name.

Couric said Te’o told her, when asked whether he thought it could have been Tuiasosopo, or a man, on the phone, “It didn’t sound like a man; it sounded like a woman. If he somehow made that voice, that’s incredible. It’s an incredible talent to do that, especially every day.”

Couric, who’s heard the voicemails, said the voice sounded like a woman to her, too.
