John Catsimatidis to hold fund-raiser for Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell

GOP mayoral hopeful John Catsimatidis will hold a house fund-raiser for Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell, who voted against the $60 billion Hurricane Sandy relief package.

Catsimatides defended the McConnell event to be held Sunday night at his posh Central Park apartment on Fifth Avenue. Guests are asked to kick in $1,000 to $5,000 to McConnell’s campaign.

Catsimatides insisted that McConnell was helpful in getting other GOP senators to back the bill.

“I always help my friends. I don’t forget to say thank you to those people who helped us,” he said, before quickly insisting: “But this was not a quid pro quo.”

The fundraiser for the Kentucky lawmaker is also being sponsored by GOP chairman Ed Cox, whose son is married to Catsmatidis’ daughter.

Some New York politicos said the McConnell fund-raiser won’t help Catsimatides win the hearts of New York voters.
