Rob Ryan interviews with Saints

Former Cowboys assistant Rob Ryan interviewed with the Saints for their vacant defensive coordinator job.

The team said Ryan met with coach Sean Payton yesterday.

Payton interviewed University of Georgia defensive coordinator Todd Grantham on Thursday. But Grantham announced yesterday he had withdrawn from consideration for the job.

RAVENS: Make no mistake about it, wide receiver Anquan Boldin wants to remain a Raven.

“For me that’s not something that I worry about,” Boldin told Pro Football Talk. “I think you go out and let your play speak for itself. You deal with that if you have to, but, I think for me — I know for me — Baltimore is the only place I want to play.

“It’s the last place that I will play. For me, I’ll retire a Raven. I’m not putting on any other uniform.

PANTHERS: Charlotte’s City Council is backing a plan to give the Carolina Panthers nearly $144 million from a food and beverage tax hike to pay for upgrades to its stadium.

The tentative deal would require approval from the N.C. General Assembly for the city to increase its prepared food and beverage tax by one cent. That part of the deal hasn’t been settled.

The money would be paid over 15 years and requires the team to stay in Charlotte for that period of time. That would resolve concerns from city officials that the Panthers could relocate the franchise to another city.

TEXANS: Nose tackle Shaun Cody is out of the hospital after undergoing back surgery. Dr. Robert Watkins said he performed successful microscopic surgery for a lumbar disc herniation on Cody on Jan. 29. Cody was released from the hospital the day after the surgery.

The 6-foot-4, 307-pound Cody missed three games in November with a back injury.

BROWNS: Quarterback Brandon Weeden said he knows he’s going to face competition to keep his starting job and he’s eager to face it.

During an appearance at Oklahoma Christian University Breeden, who threw more interceptions than touchdowns during his rookie season, said “unless you’re Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees or these guys, you might as well expect for somebody to try to come take your job.”

EAGLES: Philadelphia completed new coach Chip Kelly’s staff, adding Dave Fipp as special teams coordinator.
