M&Ms’ ‘petrified peanut’ tears up woman’s teeth: lawsuit

Her treat turned out to be a jawbreaker.

A Brooklyn housewife who cracked several teeth on a “petrified peanut” in a bag of M&Ms has sued Mars, Inc. and the Duane Reade where she bought the offending candy, according to a lawsuit filed in Brooklyn Supreme Court.

Lea Shimunov, 47, of Sheepshead Bay, bought a bag of peanut M&Ms at a Duane Reade on Avenue U in December 2011 – but when she bit into the sinister sweet it broke her teeth, the suit claims.

“There was either a foreign object that was made into a M&M, or it may have been a petrified peanut,” said lawyer Robert Berkowitz, who faults the quality control at the privately-held company.

“They were negligent in putting this product out for human consumption.”

Mars did not respond to a request for comment.
