MLB: Figgins gets minor league deal from Fish

Third baseman Chone Figgins signed a minor league contract with the Marlins yesterday with an invitation to their major league camp beginning next week.

Felix Hernandez said he won’t pitch for Venezuela in the upcoming World Baseball Classic. … The Diamondbacks and second baseman Aaron Hill have reached a deal that will keep him under contract through the 2016 season. The deal adds three years and $35 million to his existing contract. … All-Star closer Jim Johnson and pitcher Jason Hammel have agreed to one-year contracts with the Orioles, avoiding salary arbitration. Both right-handers will earn raises to $5.7 million. … The Cardinals and 2011 World Series MVP David Freese have reached agreement on a one-year contract that avoids salary arbitration. … In Pittsburgh, the Pirates have completed a one-year contract with Francisco Liriano.

NCAA: Columbia falls to Dartmouth

Connor Boehm scored 20 points and Alex Mitola added 17 as Dartmouth (6-13, 2-3 Ivy League) defeated Columbia 60-57 last night to end a streak of 24 Ivy League road losses dating to the 2008-09 season. Mark Cisco scored 16 points for the Lions (9-10, 1-4).

Two other Ivy League games that were scheduled for tonight have been moved back to tomorrow because of the winter storm. Tomorrow, Dartmouth will play at Cornell at noon in Ithaca, N.Y., and Harvard will visit Columbia at 2 p.m. .

nba: Sixers’ Richardson done for year

76ers guard Jason Richardson will miss the rest of the season with a left knee injury that will require surgery.

NHL: Bruins adjust due to blizzard

The Bruins have pushed back the start of today’s home game against the Lightning from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. because of the blizzard hitting the Northeast.

ETC.: Fired Ravens OC likely to land at LSU

A person familiar with the situation told the Associated Press former Ravens offensive coordinator Cam Cameron, who was fired by Baltimore after a Week 14 loss to the Redskins, is in talks with LSU coach Les Miles to run the Tigers’ offense. An official announcement is expected next week.
