Alec Baldwin was never father of the year, but he’s giving it another shot.
The “30 Rock” actor — who infamously called his daughter, Ireland, a “thoughtless little pig” — joined with his new wife, Hilaria Thomas, yesterday to announce that she is pregnant.
“We’re having a baby!” Thomas, 28, gleefully told the syndicated TV show “Extra,” in an interview to air today. “It was a surprise, a wonderful surprise!”
The big news comes 6 1/2 months after the couple was married in Manhattan.
Baldwin’s only other child is 17-year-old Ireland, whose mother is his former wife, actress Kim Basinger.
The strain in their relationship became public in 2007, when Baldwin left a ranting “pig” voicemail for the child, who was then 11. They have since reconciled.
The 54-year-old Baldwin seems ready to turn over a new leaf when it comes to daddyhood, as he excitedly announced the new bundle of joy.
“I’m lucky, you know, I’m lucky,” he said. “You can make this as light as you want …
“But it really is the most amazing thing. If I really shared with you how I felt, I’d probably burst out crying now.”
Thomas said, “Now, I’m showing. It’s getting to be much more, like ‘Oh, my God, this is actually going to happen!’
“Now we can start the nursery, the everything, the dreaming.”
It’s not clear how far along Thomas is in the pregnancy.
Thomas said she learned she was expecting after taking a home test. Baldwin joked that he heard the joyous news loud and clear.
“There was a scream I heard which is the scream that’s normally reserved for if there’s a spider in the house on Long Island,” he said.
“Sometimes, like maybe once a week, you hear ‘Alec, Alec!’ and I come downstairs and, like, there’s a spider on the wall.”
Thomas said she followed up her initial screams with cries of “I’m pregnant, I’m pregnant!”
“He runs up the stairs, and I’m holding it [the home pregnancy test] and showing it to him,” Thomas, 28, added.
Jenna Autuori, fitness editor at Fitness magazine and pal of Thomas’, said pregnancy will treat the yoga teacher well.
“I’m so happy for you guys!!” Autuori tweeted to her friend Thomas.
“You will be the prettiest mom-to-be!”
Baldwin should have as much time as he wants for diaper changing, now that his “30 Rock” sitcom has aired its final episode.
