Two New Jersey residents have been charged with carjacking an elderly woman at gunpoint, then trapping her in the trunk of her vehicle before going on a shopping spree with her credit cards.
Joseph Defreitas, 41, and Marilyn Nadeau, 52, both of East Rutherford, were indicted yesterday on charges ranging from kidnapping to credit-card fraud, Morris County prosecutors say.
Authorities say the pair approached the 71-year-old New Hampshire resident on Dec. 29 at a Parsippany office building where she had stopped after becoming lost while traveling home from a visit with her family in Mount Laurel.
