Madonna to join Miley Cyrus for ‘Unplugged’ performance

Miley Cyrus’ MTV “Unplugged” special won’t just feature stripped down rendition of the singer’s hits, it will also feature the union of two generations of pop stars.

Joining the controversy-prone 21-year-old on stage will be a musical icon who’s weathered her fair share of scrutiny: Madonna.

E! News reports that the pop icon, 55, will be one of the special guests performing alongside the “Wrecking Ball” singer on the latest installment of MTV’s performance special.

It’s unknown which of Cyrus’s song they duo will perform, but they were spotted rehearsing at a Los Angeles-area sound stage on Monday, according to the website.

While the two women are two the biggest pop stars in the world, this will mark the first time they’ve sang together.

The appearance will be Madonna’s second televised performance of the week. On Sunday, the singer showed up at the Grammys to sing the chorus to Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’s “Same Love.”

MTV Unplugged first premiered in 1989 and has featured memorable performances from legendary performers such as Eric Clapton, Nirvana and Bob Dylan.

Although the production of “Unplugged” specials has slowed since 2000, recent installments have featured Thirty Seconds to Mars, Lil Wayne and Florence and the Machine.

Cyrus’s episode of “Unplugged” will air on Wednesday at 9 p.m. EST.
