Healthy New Yorkers said they were ready to pile on the olive oil, fish and nuts after a study showed the Mediterranean diet can slash the risk of a heart attack or stroke by up to 30 percent.

“I wouldn’t call it a diet — a diet sounds like something you do to lose weight. It’s really a lifestyle choice,” said Robert Michael, 27, who cut off red meat nine months ago and is now eating more fish, oils and vegetables.

He dropped 40 pounds — from 240 to 200 — and said he plans to adopt other tips, like eating nuts.

“It’s a diet that tells you if you drink wine, you can be healthy,” he added. “How great is that?”

Researchers at the Hospital Clinic in Barcelona, Spain, said drinking at least seven glasses of wine per week is also important, because it’s high in mono- unsaturated fats, omega-3 fats and protein.
