He hasn’t played in the majors since 2011 with the Rays, when he retired rather than face a 100-game suspension for testing positive for a banned substance.

Inter Milan was fined $79,800 after a section of fans directed racist chants and banners Sunday toward AC Milan striker Mario Balotelli. Balotelli was fined $13,300 by the Italian league for making a vulgar gesture at Inter Milan fans while walking off the field.

GOLF: LPGA stars in car crash
Paula Creamer and Ai Miyazato suffered whiplash when a car driven by fellow LPGA star Suzann Pettersen was involved in a five-car crash Sunday while they were driving to the airport in Bangkok. Peterssen said she was shaken by the crash but suffered no serious injury.
NHL: Gagne dealt to Flyers
The Kings traded struggling left wing Simon Gagne to the Flyers for a conditional draft pick. … The Stars dealt right wing Michael Ryder and a third-round draft pick to the Canadiens for right wing Erik Cole.
A deal has been struck to keep the AHL’s Whale, the Rangers’ top affiliate, playing in Hartford until at least 2016.

Three fans injured Saturday during a NASCAR race before the Daytona 500 have hired a lawyer, but some experts say they could face tough obstacles in winning damages. Their attorneys said any potential action would focus on the safety fence used on the track at Daytona International Speedway.
