Health fear at ‘toxic’ school

The head of the teachers union complained yesterday that unapproved construction work at a Brooklyn charter school may have left a toxic situation in the building.

The union claimed that ceiling plaster and light fixtures containing harmful chemicals were disturbed in the work.

The Department of Education confirmed that Success Academy Cobble Hill completed projects last year at a Baltic Street building it shares with a public school, but the work done didn’t get approval.

However, the DOE said air tests conducted days later found no asbestos or other toxic materials.

Students were not in the building at the time of the work.
