Store clerks, brother arrested for allegedly cheating LI man out of Lotto winnings

SOUTHAMPTON — Two store clerks and the brother of one of the clerks have been arrested on charges of cheating a Long Island man out of $74,000 in New York Lotto winnings.

Southampton Town police say a 28-year-old construction worker brought several lottery tickets to a convenience store on March 18.

Police say the clerks scanned one of the tickets and saw the winning amount of $74,892.

According to police, instead of giving the winner his receipt the clerks gave him $774 in cash and sent him on his way. Police say one of the clerks then gave the winning ticket to his brother to cash in so they could split the winnings.

The three men were arrested Friday and arraigned Saturday on charges of grand larceny and conspiracy.
