A man who lost both his legs in Monday’s attack helped investigators narrow their search for the Boston Marathon bombers.

Jeff Bauman awoke in the hospital after a homemade bomb ripped apart his legs — and immediately described one of the men who tried to kill him, his sibling said.

“He woke up under so much drugs, asked for a paper and pen and wrote, ‘Bag, saw the guy, looked right at me,’ his brother, Chris, told Bloomberg. “I’ve had many times alone with [Jeff] and . . . he told me every single detail.”

Jeff, 27, was standing near the marathon finish line on Monday to cheer on his girlfriend, who was running in the world-famous race.

That’s when he noticed a man dropping a bag near his feet.

Less than three minutes later, the bag exploded, ripping apart his legs below the knees.

A good Samaritan — peace activist Carlos Arredondo, who was there to honor his son, Lance Cpl. Alexander S. Arredondo, who had died in an Iraq War firefight — leaped to action, jumping the barricade along the marathon route and tying off Jeff’s bloody stumps with impromptu tourniquets.

Jeff was taken to Boston Medical Center, where doctors had to amputate his legs.

“Unfortunately, my son was just in the wrong place at the wrong time,” the bombing victim’s father, also named Jeff Bauman, wrote on Facebook.

“I just can’t explain what’s wrong with people today to do this to people,” the father wrote. “I’m really starting to lose faith in our country.”

But the info that Jeff Jr. gave investigators helped the feds home in on what to look for in the mountain of surveillance video, Chris said.

Movie star Bradley Cooper stopped by to pay a visit to the hero, along with Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman.

On Thursday, the FBI released images of the suspects — and hours later, police wound up in a fierce firefight with them.
