Giants report card

OFFENSE

Andre Brown (30 carries, 115 yards, 1 TD) in his first game of the season was durable and dependable. Rueben Randle made a play for a TD. The line gave up too much pressure early, but was able to run the clock out late. As for Eli Manning (12 of 22, 140 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT), the struggle continues. Grade: C

DEFENSE

The 20 points allowed is completely misleading as this surging unit gave up nearly nothing. Huge momentum-swing play on INT by Terrell Thomas. Too much for RB Rashad Jennings (20 carries, 88 yards) but sore-kneed Terrelle Pryor was bottled up on the ground (5, 19) and no real threat with his arm. Sacks for Antrel Rolle, Mathias Kiwanuka, Keith Rivers and Jason Pierre-Paul. Grade: A.

SPECIAL TEAMS

Wow. Just wow. Jerrel Jernigan fumbles away the opening kickoff to hand the Raiders seven points. Rueben Randle catches a punt on the 2-yard line he should have allowed to sail into the end zone. Kickoff coverage is gouged by Taiwan Jones for a 41-yard return. Steve Weatherford shanked two punts and had one partially blocked. One huge contribution: Cooper Taylor’s nice scoop for 21-yard TD return of Damontre Moore’s blocked punt. Grade: D.

COACHING

Players credit Tom Coughlin’s uplifting halftime pep-talk as helping to keep the spirits up. Wind and shaky passing attack meant Kevin Gilbride ran it 35 times. Longest play against Perry Fewell’s defense was 23 yards. Tom Quinn’s special teams are bad. Grade: B.
