Midtown doctor jumps to his death

A retired doctor committed suicide Saturday by jumping from his Midtown high-rise, landing on the roof of a ballet studio next door, police sources said.

Dr. Christopher Schooler, 63, who was once accused of overprescribing pills, threw himself from the 30th floor of the building on West 56th Street near Seventh Avenue at 5:17 a.m., said cops and coroner sources.

“I just saw him yesterday . . . He didn’t seem sad. He [was] a very nice man,” a building worker told The Post. “It’s very sad.”

Schooler treated gay and transgender New Yorkers with HIV and AIDS in Chelsea in the late ’80s and early ’90s, sometimes pro bono.

In 1994, state health officials recommended his licence be revoked for prescribing Valium too freely, to patients with symptoms such as rashes, documents show.

Police sources said Schooler landed on the roof of 130 W. 56th St., which houses the Ballet Arts Center for Dance and offers classes and dance performances.

Schooler graduated from the University of Brussels and lived alone.
