Ex-Rutgers coach Rice gets treatment

Mike Rice, the disgraced men’s basketball coach who was fired from Rutgers last month, has been attending counseling for the past two weeks at John Lucas’ Wellness and Aftercare Program in Texas, according to ESPN.

Rice, who was fired after videos of him physically and verbally abusing his players were made public, is receiving anger management help, and there is no timetable for how long he will remain in treatment.

“He’s doing great. His attitude has been phenomenal and our kids love his intensity and his passion for the game. He’s happy to be having this chance to give back a little bit,” Lucas told ESPN.

Lucas, who said Rice won’t grant any interviews while in the program, dealt with alcoholism during his NBA playing career and opened his facility to help players and coaches deal with many different issues, including alcohol and drug abuse as well as anger management.
