Rikers jailers in the ‘joint’

Two city correction officers were charged yesterday with dealing pot to inmates on Rikers Island.

Austin Romain and Khalif Phillips, both 31, were busted while on the job after being ratted out by jailhouse snitches, who were alleged customers, officials said.

Both guards operated independently but used similar methods to sell marijuana and other contraband, including scalpels and tobacco, to prisoners inside the jail complex’s maximum-security facilities, according to the Manhattan US Attorney’s Office.

Both men arranged to get paid by the jailbirds’ wives and girlfriends, then smuggled the drugs onto Rikers and hid them inside garbage pails, light fixtures and lockers, court papers say.

If convicted, each faces up to 10 years in the slammer.
