Why Ray’s wrong for team O

The Issue: Whether NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly is a good choice for director of homeland security.

***

NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly would make a superb head of homeland security (“Ray Has Eye on DC Gig,” July 18).

He would also be a lightening rod for ill-advised criticism of his policing practices in NYC at his confirmation hearing before a Democratic-dominated Senate.

And President Obama would be demonized for nominating a stop-and-frisk man, and a man who recognized early on the value of being pro-active in the confrontation with radical Islamists.

Kelly has been successful because his boss has supported him.

Under Obama, a dedicated director of homeland security would not be able to uphold the law. Obama runs the security show with the sole objective of appeasing Latinos.

Janet Napolitano has been a dedicated puppet, and I doubt that Kelly can be manipulated to that extent. Besides, Kelly’s reputation would be irreparably damaged if he worked for this lawless administration.

Kelly is the obvious choice for director of homeland security.

The bar has been set so low by Napolitano that he doesn’t even have to show up to succeed. He must realize, however, that he is venturing into the land of Obama — open borders, non-enforcement of laws and amnesty — and he will never be allowed to do the job that is necessary to protect our nation and its citizens.

Think very long and hard, Mr. Kelly.
