A man was shot in the face in Alphabet City Friday night, cops said.
Cops responded to the shooting around 10:45 p.m and found the victim in a courtyard at the Jacob Riis Houses on 118 Avenue D.
“This is why I keep my kids inside,” said Mavis Pendelton, 38, a mother of three who lives in nearby 108 Avenue D. “He pulls his gun out and just shot him down. I just yelled ‘Oh my god!’I just started screaming.”
The 18-year-old victim was rushed to Bellevue Hospital with life-threatening wounds.
According to cops, unruly residents began throwing trash and other objects onto the crime scene below, forcing cops to call in back-up and emergency services.
The motive for the shooting is unknown, cops said.
