GULLANE, Scotland — One day after numerous complaints from players at the British Open about the pin placements on crests of the green where it was difficult to stop the ball, there was only one hole that stood out in the second round — the par-4 15th hole.
When he finished his round, Henrik Stenson said, “Anyone that wants to see three-putts or four-putts, head down to 15.’’
Later in the day, Nicolas Colsaerts six-putted that green.
Colsaerts’ putting coach Michel Vanmeerbeek told the BBC, “When you see it on TV, it will look like a stupid situation, but [Colsaerts] was trying on every putt and he missed each time. One of the best players in the world ends up looking stupid. I don’t know how we will talk about that afterwards. It can happen in these conditions.”
Ian Poulter, who was most critical about the Thursday setup, said his playing partner, Billy Horschel, “had a 15-foot putt [on 15] and ran it 15 feet past.’’
