Kobe Bryant memorabilia goes for $433G at auction

A Kobe Bryant NBA championship ring sold for $176,000 at auction Saturday, the highlight of a highly-contested sale that pitted the player against his parents.

Six items from the basketball superstar’s career – including rings and two high school uniforms – netted a combined $433,000.

The sale was held through New Jersey-based Goldin Auctions. Originally, Bryant’s mother Pamela intended to part with hundreds of the player’s items in order to pay for a house. Kobe argued that the memorabilia was his, and he filed a suit against the auction company trying to halt the sale.

The sides settled in June, and the auction continued with six items of Bryant memorabilia.

As part of the settlement, a portion of the auction proceeds – more than $62,000 – was donated to The Bully Project, a Kobe Bryant supported charity.

Other sales from the auction include a 1949 Jackie Robinson game-used baseball bat, which sold for $159,000, and a 1909-1911 T206 baseball card of Ty Cobb, which fetched $120,000.
