NBA, union donating $250K to Philippines typhoon victims

The NBA and the NBA Player’s Association have joined forces to donate $250,000 to the U.S. fund for UNICEF to help support the group’s emergency relief efforts in the Philippines in the wake of the devastation left by Super Typhoon Haiyan.

In addition, Heat coach Erik Spoelstra – whose mother was born in the Philippines – will appear in a U.S. Fund for UNICEF Public Service Announcement to help raise funds for relief efforts.

The Pacers and Rockets played an exhibition game in Manila during the preseason. League sources said the NBA and the NBPA are scheduled to make a separate donation to another organization Monday, as well.
