Jonathan Martin wants to play, but not for Dolphins

Dolphins players have offered lukewarm responses when asked if they would accept Jonathan Martin back onto the team. It doesn’t sound like they’ll have anything to worry about.

Martin wants to play in the NFL again, but not with the Dolphins, according to an ESPN report. The offensive lineman left the team two weeks ago amid reports of bullying, led by Richie Incognito.

Martin is currently with his family and receiving medical treatment for an unknown medical condition, according to the report. The only comment from Martin came in the form of a statement released by his lawyer, David Cornwell, in which he said he was the victim of verbal and physical abuse from teammates.

A source told the website Martin will speak publicly, as Incognito did Sunday with Fox Sports, but wanted time before he did.

Incognito tried to paint his and Martin’s relationship as that of teammates who razzed each other with rough language.

“When words are put in a context, I understand why a lot of eyebrows get raised,” Incognito said of a voicemail in which he used racially-charged threats.

“But people don’t know how Jon and I communicate to one another. For instance, a week before this went down, Jonathan Martin texted me on my phone, ‘I will murder your whole f—ing family.’ Now, do I think Jonathan Martin was going to murder my family? Not one bit. He texted me that. I didn’t think he was going to kill my family. I knew that was coming from a brother. I knew it was coming from a friend. I knew it was coming from a teammate.”

But Martin does not appear to see things the same way. Cornwell would later tweet out Martin’s supposed text, which was a meme of a woman and a dog with the threatening words.
