Source: Jets’ Sanchez had minor knee surgery

Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez has not only been recovering from shoulder surgery for the past few months. He also had minor surgery on his left knee, according to a source.

The arthroscopic surgery was described as “maintenance” and probably would have not occurred if Sanchez had not had season-ending shoulder surgery. The doctors who performed the shoulder surgery checked his knee and decided to do the procedure to clean it up since he already was out for the year.

Sanchez tore his labrum in an Aug. 24 preseason game against the Giants. He had the surgery in October.

Sanchez’s shoulder rehabilitation is going well, and he has begun light throwing. The source said his knee is no longer an issue.

The Jets are expected to part ways soon with Sanchez, who has a $13.1 million cap charge this year. He also is due a $2 million roster bonus in late March.
