Activists want 9/11 Memorial brochures in Arabic

The 9/11 Memorial is giving tourists brochures in at least 10 languages — just not Arabic.

The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee is firing off letters to memorial honchos demanding answers on why they didn’t include the world’s fourth-most-spoken language.

“Our fear is that there is a political intention behind the exclusion,” said Raed Jarrar, the ADC’s director of communications and advocacy.

The memorial said there aren’t enough Arabic-speaking visitors to justify printing tourism materials in the language.

The memorial said, “Nine languages are spoken by over 97 percent of our visitors: English, Spanish, German, French, Portuguese, Mandarin, Italian, Japanese and Russian.”

“As Arabic-speaking visitors currently represent our 25th-largest group, Arabic translations are not yet among the initial foreign language editions.”
