NYPD expands search for missing Queens boy

The Queens school safety officer who was manning the front door of the Center Boulevard School and was the last person to see a missing autistic boy told him to return upstairs and did not act inappropriately, Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said Wednesday.

Avonte Oquendo, 14, left through a side door 11 days ago. He has not been seen since.A $70,000 reward is being offered for leads on information about his whereabouts. Tipsters Anyone with information should call is asked to call the Crime Stoppers hotline at (800) 577-TIPS.

Kelly said Wednesday the officer was not suspected of misconduct.

Meanwhile, the NYPD has expanded its search beyond New York City.

Kelly noted Avonte is fascinated with trains — resulting in a thorough search of the subways — and may have taken one to New Jersey or beyond.
