Piven large

We’re not sure what Jeremy Piven is eating these days after his sushi-gate scandal, but we do know where the “Entourage” star was living when he came to town last week.

On his way back from London, where he was promoting his new movie “The Goods,” Piven stayed for a week in a triplex penthouse at the Prime condo building at 333 W. 14th St.

The 4,800-square-foot, three-bedroom, three-bathroom apartment has three balconies and a private roof deck and is on the market for $5.9 million.

The actor, who lives in Los Angeles, is looking to buy in downtown Manhattan. Daren Hornig of SAXA, the building’s developer, says Piven was at the Prime for a week while he contemplates purchasing the triplex penthouse. “Entourage” creator Doug Ellin made the arrangements with Hornig, his pal since their days together at Bellmore’s JFK High School on Long Island.

We hear that Stone Phillips, who lost his $7 million-a-year “Dateline NBC” job due to “budget cutbacks” two years ago, has also looked at the triplex.

Last week, a seventh-floor, two-bedroom, 2,300-square-foot unit at the Prime closed for around $2 million, under its $2.3 million asking price. A lower duplex listed at $3.19 million is the only other unsold unit in the building, Hornig says. Units at the building, which has gone through a handful of brokers, have been on the market since 2006.

Wenner take all

It’s rock ’n’ roll time in Montauk. After summering in Martha’s Vineyard rentals with partner Matt Nye, Rolling Stone founder and publisher Jann Wenner is back on the East End.

Wenner just closed on a 6,300-square-foot, three-story waterfront home on Old Montauk Highway for $11.9 million. The home, listed for $14.9 million, is within a half-mile of Bernie Madoff’s old beach house.

Wenner’s eight-bedroom, 6½-bath house sits on 1½ acres. Built in 2005, it comes with existing plans to add a guesthouse and pool. Corcoran Group listing broker Krae Van Sickle could not be reached for comment.

Wenner purchased his new beach house from George Filopoulos of Metrovest Equities, the developer of projects including Jersey City’s Beacon condos. Filopoulos is downsizing to a place across the street (and off the ocean) for around $4 million.

Wenner is still on speaking terms with ex-wife Jane Schindelheim. However, he is not exactly a frequent visitor at the oceanfront property they shared and that she kept in East Hampton. In 2007, Wenner and Nye bought a 62.9-acre upstate estate, built in 1843, in Tivoli for $5.8 million.

Beating the board game

After rejecting Related Companies President Jeff Blau’s $31 million bid last May, the co-op board at ultra-snooty 820 Fifth Ave. has finally found a buyer for homebuilder Ara Hovnanian’s flat, which occupies the entire fourth floor.

The new buyer is Kenneth Griffin, the founder, president and CEO of Citadel Investment Group in Chicago. Last year, Forbes named Griffin the 97th-richest American and estimated his net worth at $3.7 billion. We hear Griffin paid just under the $35 million asking price, prompting many brokers to buzz that good times might be on their way back. Griffin and his second wife, Anne Dias Griffin, are big art collectors and philanthropists, so this deal may be good news for the city’s cultural institutions, as well.

Tommy Hilfiger once owned the apartment, though he never lived there — buying for $10 million and flipping for $18 million to Lily Safra, who later sold it to the Hovnanians. The co-op board also rejected Ron Perelman and Steve Wynn.

As for Hovnanian and his wife, Rachel, we hear they might be moving downtown soon.
