‘SHREK 2’ CANNES DO IT

‘SHREK 2″ is following in the green footsteps of its predecessor, premiering in competition at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.

Voice cast members Eddie Murphy, Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, Julie Andrews and Antonio Banderas are expected to be on hand for a red-carpet gala in France for the animated sequel on May 15, six days before its debut in the United States.

The original “Shrek” premiered at Cannes three years ago before taking in $477 million worldwide.

Quentin Tarantino’s “Kill Bill Vol. 2” with Uma Thurman as an avenging assassin, is also expected to show in the festival’s competition.

So are two films that garnered acclaim in their debuts at the Sundance Film Festival, “The Woodsman,” starring Kevin Bacon as a child molester, and “The Motorcycle Diaries,” with Gael Garcia Bernal as a young Che Guevara.

Variety reported yesterday that the short list also includes “Home at the End of the World” with Colin Farrell andSissy Spacek, “Heights” with Glenn Close and “Tarnation” from director John Cameron Mitchell (“Hedwig and the Angry Inch”), which is said to contain actors performing un-simulated sex acts.

“De-Lovely,” starring Kevin Kline as the gay composer Cole Porter and Ashley Judd as his wife, will also likely be shown during the festival, which runs from May 12 to 23, sources told The Post.
